PUCO Authorizes PRO-TEC to Continue Participating in Utility Demand Response, Transmission Programs

COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 29, 2024) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) today authorized a rate agreement between PRO-TEC Coating Company, LLC and AEP Ohio allowing the company to participate in AEP Ohio’s load reduction program. PRO-TEC, located in Leipsic, Ohio, produces steel for the automotive industry.

PRO-TEC will continue participating in AEP Ohio’s interruptible load reduction program, designed to ease stress on the electric grid during periods of peak demand, as well as the utility’s transmission rate program that allows the customer to be billed directly by grid operators for transmission service.

“This arrangement we approve today balances energy needs on the grid with substantial investment in the state and local economy,” stated PUCO Chair Jenifer French.

In its ruling, the Commission highlighted the 427 jobs retained or created, and over $700 million in investments during the term of the arrangement. The company plans to hire an additional 20 high-skilled jobs and $6.5 million in planned capital investment.
